I was born in 1967 and grew up in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. I think it's fair to say I was an energetic, imaginative child who frustrated my teachers on more than one occasion. It was these same teachers' patience and enthusiasm that drew me toward the profession and after a brief career in the airline industry I followed my heart and applied to the Faculty of Education. I've been teaching since 1995. Though I honestly can't describe myself as an avid reader growing up, I really enjoyed horror stories--the scarier the better--and aspired to writing such frightening tales as Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart. I completed my first full-length manuscript at the ripe old age of 35--it began as a New Year's resolution. It took five years of writing, re-writing, editing and submitting before I'd receive a contract from Vanwell Publishing Ltd. In the spring of 2007, Shadow of the Moon (a middle-grade fantasy about three kids who must save the universe from darkness) was published. It was followed by the sequel, Trick of the Light that same fall. I once believed that getting published was sort of like the end of the road--I realize now it's only the beginning!
